Eduard 1/48 P-51D-20 Weekend (84176)

Today we are going to talk about Eduard 1/48 P-51D-20 Weekend (84176). This is a new release from the well-known Czech brand. As you can notice, it comes in a more accessible version which doesn't feature PE or masks. In my opinion, such edition should be interesting for modelers who would like to save a bit of money or maybe add a bit more sophisticated upgrades. Packaging is typical here, so let's open the box and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with Bf 109 kit from the same brand.

We are going to start with the sprue which carries various external equipment. Here you will find rocket launchers as well as several types of fuel tanks.

Next frame comes with mix of various parts. You can see here the cockpit floor and walls as well as some parts for propeller and fuselage.

Here we get separate panels for main and tail wheel wells. These sections should be easy to assemble. Note also how landing gear wheels are designed. You can replace them with original Brassin set.

Two fuselage halves come on the separate plastic frame. Both parts are molded together with tail fin. Be careful in the cowling area as the top cover is molded in.

Last frame comes with wing parts. Note that mechanization is molded separately.

Clear frame is packed into separate plastic bag. This is a Weekend kit, so there are no masks included.

Kit features two decals sheets, both are printed in Eduard. We get all the necessary symbols for four markings as well as some cockpit decals.

PE fret comes as unusual thing for this series. It should be used for some of the markings in the kit.

I also recommend to take a look at this PE set which will add more features on your model.

All markings can be seen on the photo above. Assembly manual is typical and I show all pages in the video-review.

New model should be already available for purchase. In one box you will get a great plastic together with interesting markings. In my opinion this Mustang might be interesting even for beginners. Moreover, Eduard produces a lot of handy upgrades, so professionals can add more if they would like to. Another idea is to combine this kit with some German aircraft from the same brand and build a dogfight diorama.
Get this and other kits on official Eduard website.

Pros

  • Nice molding quality
  • Clever parts division
  • Great decals and markings

Cons

  • No masks or templates
