HobbyBoss 1/48 Messershmitt Bf 109E-3 (81791)

This aircraft type is well-known and copied by many brands, but yes, today we are going to talk about HobbyBoss 1/48 Messershmitt Bf 109E-3 (81791). New kit comes as new-tooled plastic in the popular scale. I have not that much of experience with models from this brand, so it will be interesting to see what is offered in this nice box. Overall packaging is typical and you will find all sprues in separate plastic bags. Let's open them and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with the bigger Bf 109.

Watch this video-review where I show all parts even closer.

First frame is dedicated to fuselage halves and some external elements. Note also the special foam which is protecting the thin parts here.

Left half is molded together with rudder and also features nice external details. Note that cowling will be installed separately as one-piece part.

Inside you will find some structural features as well as cockpit details. Such thing should be ok for standard build, but you can get some aftermarket sets for even more features copied.

Small frames are dedicated to air intake and propeller hub. Both are molded nicely and should be easy to install on the model.

Wing parts come on the next sprue. Overall design is typical for this element - two top panels and one bottom. External features are the same as on the fuselage parts.

Note that wing mechanisation is premolded and you won't be able to change much. Thin attachment points should be easy to cut through. Fuel tank will be used in both marking options.

Yes, mechanization will also serve as guiding element for wing assembly. Large guiding pins should help as well.

Clear frame is packed into separate plastic bag and foam in order to avoid possible scratches. Of course you can copy the open and closed canopy with those parts.

Here you can see pre-cut masks which will help you get the nice paintwork on the model.

Marking guide is printed in color, what is useful for the options included in the kit.

Decals sheet is not that big, but you will find all necessary symbols for two markings. Both options are shown on the photo below.

HobbyBoss also added the ad insert with 3D images of the model.

Assembly manual is black-and-white brochure. You can check all pages in the video-review.

New Bf 109 should be already available for purchase in all good model shops. In my opinion it is a decent choice for modelers who would like to copy this famous aircraft. Overall quality looks great out of the box, and there is a good potential for various improvements. Even the standard build would look nice, and it can be even recommended to beginners.
THANK YOU FOR DONATIONS WHICH MADE THIS REVIEW POSSIBLE!
