Hasegawa 1/12 Honda XLR250R (MD22) (21518)

Today we are going to talk about Hasegawa 1/12 Honda XLR250R (MD22) (21518). New kit comes as yet another version of Japanese offroad bike. It is molded in traditional scale and should be interesting choice for modelers who would like to have one in their collection. Previous bikes from Hasegawa were quite nice, so it will be interesting to see what is offered here. Overall packaging is typical and we can open all frames and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with another motorcycle from Suzuki.

Watch this video where I show all parts even closer.

First is engine block. It is molded as single-piece part, which should make the whole appearance a bit more interesting.

Both wheels will feature plastic spokes. For professional modelers it is a big no-no, but replacement will require some experience from you.

Black sprue houses exhaust parts and some of the suspension elements. Note that parts are quite small and will require careful installation.

Front fork is molded in grey plastic, what should be useful for convincing metal finish on your model. Note also here separate bars for the rear swingarm.

Next sprue is in white color for ease of painting. Fuel tank should be glued out of two halves unfortunately. It will be important to get a smooth result out of those.

Main frame is molded as two large parts which should be joined together. There are some premolded features, which will require careful paintwork.

Whole seat and rear bag are molded out of red plastic. I doubt that modelers will actually leave it as is, so those parts could have been white or grey as well.

Clear frame looks great, but there are no masks included in the kit. Note also top engine cover as separate parts. Kit also features metal springs and length of vinyl tube.

Vinyl tires look fine for standard build, but there are no features on the tire walls.

Decals sheet is not that big, but you will get all necessary symbols for one marking option. Note also full number registry here.

Assembly manual is black-and-white, and you can check all pages in the video-review.

New motorcycle should be already available for purchase. In my opinion it is a great kit in popular scale. Out of the box you are getting all necessary bonuses, so it is just a matter of careful asssembly. It might be a good idea to find photos of the real bikes as those will be handy for a convincing paintwork on the model. There are also some aftermarket sets available, but those will cost you extra money.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR DONATIONS WHICH MADE THIS REVIEW POSSIBLE!
