IBG Models 1/72 Gotha Go 242A-1 (72573)

Today we are going to check together IBG Models 1/72 Gotha Go 242A-1 (72573). I guess real aircraft doesn't require any extra introductions, but somehow it wasn't that well represented in a small scale. Well, now we get new-tool offering from the famous Polish manufacturer. Box is surprisingly large, so it will be interesting to see what is supplied inside. Moreover, previous releases from the same brand were quite nice, so this one has all the chances to become the best one in its scale. Let's open all plastic bags and check parts closer.
By the way, here you can read review with Fw 190D in the same scale.

Watch this video where I show all parts even closer.

We are going to start with the sprue which carries wing parts. Each side should be assembled out of two halves and separate mechanisation.

Note that inside there are not that many guiding elements, so it is better to do dry fitment before gluing everything together. Tail booms will be aligned with help of tabs inside.

Here you can see wing root halves which should be glued together for each side. The same applies to tail fins.

Boxy fuselage should be assembled out of separate panels. Don't worry, whole design looks great and should be easy to combine together. Note that tail section is designed separately and can be positioned open if necessary.

Inside you will find quite generous interior features which should benefit from careful paintwork. Note also special recessions which will house the internal structure sections.

Aircraft stand can benefit from the small name plaque which is included here. It is a simple bonus, but still useful for display purposes.

For interior parts I have to say that it is good to see all seats molded as one-piece elements. Such design will help you avoid dealing with separate parts one-by-one.

Landing gear is nicely molded and wheels have slight weight effect. Each wheel should be glued out of two halves.

Clear sprue comes in the separate plastic bag. Molding quality looks great, but there are no masks included in the kit.

Unpainted PE fret carries mix of internal and external parts. Those might be tricky to install, but final result should be worth of hard work.

Of course, decals are printed by Techmod, so you don't have to worry about possible quality issues. Here you will find all necessary symbols for several marking options. All four can be seen on the photo below.

Assembly manual is typical for this brand. You can check all pages in the video-review.

New aircraft kit should be already available for purchase. In my opinion IBG Models did a great job here, and plastic offers a lot of nice features out of the box. You are even getting PE parts, which is not that often seen with other brands. Yes, glider is a rather special subject, but assembly options might give you a bit more freedom for build ideas.
Get this and other kits on IBG Models website.

Pros

  • Nice molding quality
  • Clever parts design
  • Good decals
  • PE included
