Rye Field Model 1/48 MiG-21MF (6001)

This time we are going to check together Rye Field Model 1/48 MiG-21MF (6001). Yes, this is the famous Soviet jet which is molded in popular scale. Moreover, it comes as new-tooled release, so we can expect some interesting design solutions inside. Box cover also brags about 3D-printed parts included in the standard package. Overall packaging is typical, and each frame comes in resealable plastic bag. Let's open them all and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with another jet aircraft.

Watch this video-review where I show all parts even closer.

First frame is the biggest here and carries mix of parts. Note that some of the panels come in two versions, so that you can copy different positions.

Tail fin should be glued out of two halves with separate rudder. Yes, you can also expose the hatch inside as there is a special insert for this.

This frame comes in two pieces and carries various armament for your MiG. Overall design is typical for those objects, but it is nice to see those in standard package.

Wing should be glued out of three panels with separate mechanization. External features include nice recessed panel lines.

Nose cone and engine nozzle are molded as one-piece elements, what should make installation easier. Nevertheless, you can also expect some aftermarket soon.

Fuselage should be glued out of two halves which come on the last frame. Those parts look fine and should be easy to separate off the sprue.

Inside you will find guiding elements for the cockpit, main wheel well and engine nozzle.

3D-printed parts come like this. On the photo above you can see one-piece pilot seat. While such a "cage" is not good for showing parts, it is great for protecting them.

Another bonus is the set of wheels which looks great, and deserves a nice paintwork.

Clear frame is packed into separate plastic bag. Molding quality looks great, and you can even open the cockpit on your model.

Yes, pre-cut masks are also included and definitely handy for such a complex shape. Unpainted PE fret is not that big, but still welcome in aircraft build.

Kit features several decals sheets. Main one carries mix of signs and even some cockpit decals too.

Stencils can be found on the separate sheet. Overall quality looks fine, but application might be tedious a bit.

Assembly manual is typical for Rye Field Model. You can check all pages in the video-review.

New MiG should be already available for purchase. One box will bring you all the necessary things to build the nice copy of the famous jet. Moreover, quality of the model looks just fine and should be fun to work with. By the way, there are more of original accessories available, but you will have to pay extra for them. In my opinion even standard build will be detailed enough to look interesting, so it is just a question of picking the marking for your project.
Thank you for your help in getting this kit.

Pros

  • Nice molding quality
  • Clever parts division
  • Great decals
  • PE and masks included
  • Several assembly options

Cons

  • No pilot figurine?
