Today I am going to tell you more about Meng 1/9 BMW R18 Classic (MT-006). I guess name says it all and it is not hard to see what you will get in bulky box. Large scale moto kits, and this time we can replicate big cruiser from the famous German manufacturer. While real thing is a bit of "special" in terms of ergonomics, it is always nice to have a copy on your shelf. This is a new-tooled plastic, so definitely worth checking. Assembled model will be 269mm long, what is rather impressive for moto build. Packaging features all frames in separate bags, what is typical for Meng. Let's open them all and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with another big scale motorcycle.

Watch this video-review where I show all parts even closer.
First frame carries rear subframe and some other minor elements of the front fork. Both sides of the rear arm look great and have large guiding elements.
Headlamp bucket has nice premolded details, which deserve a careful paintwork.
Next you can see some of the engine parts and also exhaust bends. Clutch and brake handles are molded together with bodies, so be sure to properly mask those.
Brake calipers are surprisingly big, but feature good details straight out of the box.
Meng managed to mold a lot of large parts in one piece. Such design should make it easier to get everything in place and avoid unnecessary issues.
Spokes in wheels are replicated with separate inserts. Those look great out of the box, but some modelers might replace them with metal wire for even more convincing look.
Frame is divided into two halves. Both parts look quite detailed and you will have to insert the engine in-between them.
Don't be surprised with large holes - those will be used for screws to get everything together.
Another great feature of today's Meng kit - one-piece fuel tank. Of course, cap is separate, but I really like such design as it will give you a better-looking result.
Wheel rims are coming on the separate frame. As you remember, there should be spoke rims inserted inside.
In the video I say that R18 has ugly exhaust, but this version with bags has a bit more streamlined design. Well, nobody stops you from doing some custom upgrade.
Rear fender is also one-piece element. Large guiding elements will come handy for a fine-looking motorcycle.
Engine parts come on the separate frame. Whole block should be easy to get together, but don't forget to paint everything before installing.
Meng offers movable suspension, but I am not sure if it will be useful for this type of model. :D
Frontal cover and cylinder covers come on the sprue "B". Note that kit doesn't feature any alternative options, so you have a good option for some upgrade by yourself.
I like that such complex parts are molded with all fine details in place. This is the advantage of 1/9 scale and it will be easier to install too.
Headlamp has all necessary features premolded, so it might be worth checking the real reference. Note that there are no masks included for clear parts.
Front fender is also one-piece. Having those elements separately might be handy to prepaint them before assembling everything together.
Saddlebags will have to be assembled out of several parts. Large plastic bodies will be needed for a better look.
Cylinder heads come in the separate plastic bag. One-piece molding quality gives you parts which are ready to be installed straight out of the box.
The same can be said about exhaust tips. Moreover, you can reuse those parts if you will be making custom exhaust for your model.
Clear frame is packed into special film in order to avoid possible scratches. Overall quality looks great, but there are no masks included here.
Both seats are given as vinyl parts. I am still not sure if I like such approach as parts look convincing, but you won't be able to change color.
I guess again if you plan to do something custom for seat replacement, then those parts will be just put aside.
Bags are also made out of the same material. This element will have to be put over plastic bodies which we saw before.
Vinyl tires look ok for the standard build. Moreover, there are details on the tire walls as well.
Clear parts come in two colors - red and orange. Both are molded nicely out of the box.
Such design should save you from painting clear color on the parts.
Brake rotors are replicated with help of metal parts. This is quite a thick plate which looks better than plastic analogue.
Several bags carry various types of screws. Those are needed for assembly of all parts together.
Kit features metal and chrome transfers for various writings and lenses. Decals look fine and include pinstripe finish for the tank.
Assembly manual is typical for this brand. I show all pages in the video-review.
New motorcycle kit should be already available for purchase. In my opinion it is another great offer of large scale bike from Meng. I wouldn't recommend it to beginners, but with some experience you should be able to build quite an impressive copy. Moreover, one box brings all necessary things, and there are not that many improvements I can think of. First might be the bike stand and the second can be alternative Option 719 parts which would add some visual interest to this kit.
