ICM 1/48 Do 217K-1 (48273)

This review will tell you more about ICM 1/48 Do 217K-1 (48273). New version brings us aircraft with increased glass area, and that can be an interesting project for aviation fans. I reviewed the previous releases, and they were quite nice straight out of the box. Packaging here is typical for the brand, and all frames are separated into several bags. There are 224 parts which should assemble into a model with 399mm wingspan. Let's open them all and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with Do 217N-1 version.

Watch this video-review where I show all parts even closer.

The first frame is dedicated to fuselage halves. Bothe are molded without tailwing, but feature recessed panel lines and rivets.

Engine nacelles should be glued out of several panels. There are guiding pins inside which will help you with proper positioning.

Bombs are also in the box, and overall design is typical for this element. You can expose them by opening the bombbay on your model.

Today's version features radial engine type, so another version of the engine will stay in your spare parts box. Keep in mind that both left and right engines are fully copied with standard parts.

Here you can see another engine type which I've just mentioned. Overall molding quality looks fine on all parts.

Wing mechanisation comes on the separate frame. Those parts look fine and can be useful for some build ideas with your aircraft.

Yes, there is one more pair of the fuselage halves in the kit. I guess some parts will stay unused and can be handy for your scratchbuilding experiments.

The same goes for engine gondolas. :)

Wing parts division is the same as in the previous versions. ICM placed guiding pins inside in order to make it easier to align those three together.

Clear frame is packed into separate plastic bag. Overall quality looks great, and manufacturer provides masking templates for your Do 217K-1.

Second frame is dedicated to new parts which should be used with today's version of the aircraft. Masks will definitely come handy with such design overall.

Decals sheet is not that big, but here you have all necessary symbols. Printing quality looks fine, and you can check all options on the photo below.

Assembly manual is typical for this brand. I show all pages in the video-review.

New set should be already available for purchase. In my opinion this is a great kit for experienced modelers who would like to have this aircraft in their collection. Overall quality looks fine out of the box, and there is plenty of space to work with weathering and additional details. Moreover, you can find some aftermarket which will add some fine things on your build. The only thing you will need is enough space to house this large bird after completion. :)

Pros

  • Nice molding quality
  • Clever parts division
  • Good decals for four options
  • Masking templates included

Cons

  • Might be tricky for beginners
