Eduard 1/72 P-51D Mustang Profipack (70173)

Today I am going to tell you more about Eduard 1/72 P-51D Mustang Profipack (70173). This kit somehow missed my eyes, but small scale Mustang offering comes as continuation of the famous aircraft line. First it was released in 1/48, but now you can get it in 1/72. As we all know, before it was Tamiya who offered decent plastic, so it will be interesting to see what is supplied here. Moreover, it is a Profipack which you can already get with discount in some models shops. Overall packaging is typical for this brand, so let's open everything and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with the Weekend Edition bigger kit.

Watch this video-review where I show all parts even closer.

First frame is dedicated to external equipment as well as some minor parts. Each fuel tank and bomb should be glued out of several parts, but you can also buy Brassin set separately.

Next frame is busy with internal parts. Here you can find parts for the cockpit as well as for the landing gear bays.

Cockpit walls have nice premolded features, but those will be enhanced with help of PE parts. Moreover, cockpit floor would also benefit from prepainting so that you get a nice result without extra issues.

Fuselage and wing parts can be found on the separate sprue. Overall design is typical for this type of aircraft.

Both fuselage halves feature top cowling half and air intake section. Such thing will require due care in order to avoid unnecessary seams and gaps in the most visible area.

PE fret is a traditional bonus for Profipack. All those parts will come handy for more fine features in the cockpit.

Precut masks will be useful for the clear parts on your model.

Clear frame looks great and will let you open the canopy on your model. As you can notice, there are a lot of extra parts that will go straight into spares box.

Decals are printed in Eduard, so overall quality looks fine. There are two sheets, and stencils are also here. All marking options can be seen on the photo below.

Assembly manual is typical for this brand. I show all pages in the video-review.

New Mustang should be already available for purchase. In my opinion it is an interesting choice for modelers who would like to have their small Mustang on shelf. You get all necessary items in the box and can spend even more on original add-ons. Well, I would rather recommend to focus on standard package as you get PE and masks there. Price-wise model is okay, and you can get some nice discounts in some model shops. :)
Get this kit in any good models shop.
Thank you for your donations which made this review possible!

Pros

  • Nice molding quality
  • Clever parts division
  • PE and masks included

Cons

  • Two-piece cowling and air intake
  • Might be too small for some modelers
