This time we are going to check Tamiya 1/24 Porsche 911GT3 RS (370). As you can guess, this is the kit which I was waiting for right from the moment when it was announced. Car itself doesn't require any extra introduction note as this is very famous supercar already. This is the reason why it is even cooler to replicate it in the popular scale. Some of the main disadvantages were already known, but for me it is still something worth checking in person. Overall packaging is typical, so let's open it and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with another car kit from the same brand.

Watch this video where I show all parts even closer.
We are going to start with the first frame which is molded in black plastic. Here you can see air vents and rear bumper.
Next frame is way bigger as we get the bottom plate and some other big parts. Note that front bumper and engine cover are also coming as one-piece elements.
I like the detailing level on the lower plate. It is quite a shame that this part won't be visible on the finished model.
Interior parts come on the next frame. Here you can see door cards, instrument panel and interior tub. Safety cage should be assembled out of separate parts. Brake drums will require drilling out all holes.
White sprue comes next, and it is quite surprising to see what parts are molded there. Tamiya kept pushing silver-colored parts in its kits, but here we see the change. For example, suspension parts will be easier to get in the necessary shade due to such design.
The same can be said about wheel rims and both seats. Those parts are highly customizable on the real car, so it is good to see them in white plastic here.
Body shell comes as one-piece part without any extra protection. This looks a bit strange, especially after seeing thickness of the pillars. Note that doors are molded in and can't be opened.
The same can be said about bonnet and engine bay cover. Well, the engine is not included here anyway, but still quite strange to see such thing in Porsche kit.
Vinyl tires are typical for this brand. They should look okay on the standard project.
Clear frame is packed into separate plastic bag. Molding quality looks great, but you will have to be careful with such large transparent areas. Masks can be seen on the photo below.
Chrome decals will come handy for the mirrors and stop light on the car.
First decals sheet is completely dedicated to interior. As you can notice, even seats will get their portion of decals.
Carbon fiber parts will be also replicated with help of precise decals sections. GT3 RS stripes are given in several colors, what might be handy for some color combinations.
Here you can see just two ideas, but I would recommend to look for references in order to find some interesting colors.
Reference brochure and assembly manual are printed in black-and-white, and you can check all pages in the video-review.
New kit should be already available for purchase. In my opinion it is a great choice for modelers who wanted to copy this famous supercar. Yes, some features are omitted here, but even standard contents should be enough to have something interesting. To be honest, I still don't get how Tamiya decides with features level on their kits. Porsche 911 looks like a worthy model which should get a lot of things in the standard plastic, but instead we get the same things as it was on some Nissan model. I hope this will change in the future, and such cars will be getting a bit more attention from designers.
