Italeri 1/12 Lancia Stratos HF Gr.4 (4714)

This time I am going to tell you more about Italeri 1/12 Lancia Stratos HF Gr.4 (4714). Kit was announced some time ago and for me it was interesting to see how plastic will turn out. Well, now it is available, so you can get new-tooled plastic from any good models shop. List of features is rather impressive, but it is always better to check the actual parts. Box is huge, what reminds a bit about the scale for this model. Let's open everything and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with another rally car.

In this video-review I will show you all parts even closer.

Whole box is separated into two compartments because this pair of parts should be carefully protected. Rear cover is molded separately and can be opened to show the engine.

Inside you can see some of the features which will be added with separate panels.

Doors are molded separately and should be possible to open on the assembled model. Overall quality of those two large sections looks fine.

Silver frame is dedicated to brake rotors and even some of the engine and interior bits. For me the finish looks fine, but professionals might want to repaint it.

Floor panel is molded on the next frame. Here you can see suspension parts which will require careful assembly and alignment.

Surface details look nice, note that engine subframe is molded together with floor panel. Such design should give a better look as result.

Fuel tanks should be glued out of two halves. There are also some piping to replicate. I like that all attachment points are thin and such design will be easier to work with.

Both seats and interior parts can be seen on the next sprue. Door panels will be connected with screws, but surface details look great.

Both seats will get seatbelts what is a must-have for such large build. By the way, on the previous photo you can see steering wheel.

Instrument panel comes as one panel where you will add decals, switches and clear parts.

Another silver frame comes with engine and suspension bits. All those components will require careful painting strategy so that everything would look nice once in place.

Brake calipers will have to be glued separately. Engine covers look great and definitely deserve a nice paintwork.

All of those parts have guiding elements as well, so don't worry about assembly process.

White sprues are dedicated to car body panels. Here you can see wheel arches for the rear section and louvre which should be installed instead of rear glass.

Here you can also see the special opening for the screw in area of door handle. This thing will be used to hold interior panel in place.

Another frame is filled with rear wall, bonnet and side skirts. By the way, fog lamps can be assembled either in open or closed version.

Of course, the headlamp openings are in place, but I wonder how the separate boxes will fit those slots.

In the video you can see some of the pushmarks, but those should be not visible on the finished model.

Wheel rims are molded in yellow plastic. Yes, professionals would prefer to have it in white color and pick the paint themselves, but maybe for some this molding style would be actually useful. :D

Clear frame looks good out of the box. All parts are clean and look like real glass. Nevertheless, there are no masks included in this kit, so you will have to cut them by yourself or search for some aftermarket.

This is a big scale car kit, so there is no surprise that you will have to work with screws in some places. It is also nice to get metal springs and vinyl tubing for even more convincing appearance.

PE fret comes in as a nice surprise, which will help you copy some fine features on the model. Silver color is also useful as you won't have to varnish it before assembly.

Mud guards are replicated with rubber-like clear sheet. This material should look similar to the real thing, but I wonder how easy it will be to paint.

Yes, rubber tires are here. They look okay for the standard build, but it will be interesting to see if we will get some aftermarket for this.

If you plan to build some dusty dirty vehicle, then those parts should be okay in my opinion.

Kit features two decals sheets. Both are coming from Cartograf, so you don't have to worry about any quality issues.

Note that there is also segmentation which should be useful for the proper placement of all those elements. Interior will also get some dials and stencils.

Here you can take a closer look at the printing quality.

As you can guess, there is only one marking option, which is accompanied with color-printed manual.

There are also 3D-images of the finished model, but I would recommend to get some reference photos of the real car.

Small errata note tells you how to place air intakes from both sides. Assembly manual is typical for this brand, and you can check all pages in the video-review.

New Stratos should be already available. In my opinion it is a great choice for all fans of big scale and rally cars. Even the standard build should look impressive, but there is no doubt that we will see some aftermarket later. Yes, it has only one famous marking, but again, some other companies will bring something great too. The main question is which marking you will pick for your own project. :)
