ICM 1/48 AH-1G Cobra and M8A1 US Landing Mat (48298)

This time you will learn more about ICM 1/48 AH-1G Cobra and M8A1 US Landing Mat (48298). As you can guess from the name, one box will bring us a combo for diorama in popular scale. I reviewed the previous release, but it was aircraft only in the box. Moreover, this plastic was created together with Special Hobby, so it is worth checking again. Overall packaging is typical for the brand, so all parts come in one plastic bag. There are 169 parts for assembly of AH-1G and 64 parts for landing mat. It is worth noting that assembled helicopter will be 245mm long. Let's open everything and take a closer look together.

Let's start with landing mat, as all parts for this item come on the same sprue type. Assembly process is easy - just combine those planks together and you will have a ready base for your helicopter.

On the first sprue for Cobra you can notice different plastic color which comes in a darker grey shade. Here you will get fuselage halves as well as one-piece rotor. Both look great in real life.

There are guiding pins inside which should help you with alignment. External features include raised rivets and recessed panel lines.

Kit still features towing rack which can be very useful for displaying the model. There are also two versions of the landing gear available.

Cockpit should be nicely detailed for this scale. Out of the box you will get all necessary features, but I still suggest to find seatbelts as those will be visible even with closed canopy.

Tail fin should be assembled out of two halves. Here you can also see some of the separate fuselage panels as well.

All armament is supplied on several frames. Overall quality looks great, you just need to pick the loadout version.

Clear frame is packed into separate plastic bag. Molding looks nice, and you can even copy the open cockpit. There are no masks included in this kit though.

Decals sheet is not that big, but you will get all necessary symbols here. Printing quality looks great, all markings can be seen on the photo below.

New release should be already available for purchase. In my opinion it is a great combo for a bit more sophisticated project in popular scale. If all the previous helicopters were too big for you, then this one might be a bit more reasonable in dimensions. Overall quality looks great straight out of the box, so I doubt you will have any issues here.
