ICM 1/48 B-26B Marauder (48320)

This review is dedicated to ICM 1/48 B-26B Marauder (48320). As you can guess, kit offers modelers a chance to build yet another version of the famous American bomber in popular scale. Yes, it will take a lot of space in finished state, but I guess some will be happy to work in this size. Previous versions were quite nice out of the box, so it is interesting to see what is new here. Packaging is typical for ICM - large box with color printed cover. There are 363 parts in total, which should assemble into a model with whopping 454mm wingspan. Sprues are packed into several plastic bags. Let's open them and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with Invader kit in the same scale.

We are going to start with fuselage halves, both are molded on the same frame. There are guiding elements inside and some of the hatches are molded separately.

I like that we get both engines out of the box. It is worth thinking on how to expose at least one on the finished model.

ICM designers didn't skip on interior features, and for some modelers it will be enough of what is supplied in standard package.

Wing mechanization is molded separately and in some cases should be glued out of two halves. Overall quality looks great out of the box.

Each side of the wing should be glued out of two halves and there are guiding elements to help you with the task. External features are okay, but some of you noted that it could be nice to have riveting as well.

Both wings should be held in place with help of large tabs. It looks like such elements should be enough to provide you with sturdy assembly.

Each engine gondola is glued out of two halves. Yes, there are guiding elements inside too.

Clear frame is packed into a separate plastic bag. Overall quality looks great and there are masking templates included in the kit.

Decals sheet is nice in terms of printing quality, but there are not that many stencils, and you will have to get some aftermarket PE for more of cockpit stuff. All markings are shown on the photo below.

One nice small bonus or maybe not so small - calendar/poster with boxart. It is really cool looking thing and I hope it will become a tradition for some novelties from ICM.

Assembly manual is typical for this brand. I show all pages in the video-review.

First of all I hope you remember what was the number for wingspan of the finished model. Kit might be great out of the box, but this is definitely something not for beginners. I would recommend to go for such project with experience behind your back. It is because there is a great potential for even more improvements for a better look. Don't worry - even standard plastic will look nice in the finished state, but the scale of the aircraf just asks for more things to be added here and there. :)

Pros

  • Nice molding quality
  • Clever parts division

Cons

  • Might be too big for some modelers
