Meng 1/72 Sd.Kfz.182 King Tiger (Henschel Turret) (72-011)

This article will tell you more about Meng 1/72 Sd.Kfz.182 King Tiger (Henschel Turret) (72-011). New set comes as new-tool from the famous manufacturer. I chose today's version, but there is also another one available with different turret. As for the tank, I guess it doesn't need any extra introduction, and there is a chance you've built one already. Packaging is typical here, so let's open it and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with a bit bigger release of the same tank.

Watch this video-review where I show all parts even closer.

First frame is dedicated to roadwheels and drivetrain. Note that drive sprockets will have to be glued out of several parts.

It is good to see track lengths in such scale. Such design will be easier to work with and also should look more convincing on the finished model.

Lower hull section is divided into several panels. Note that suspension arms are premolded on side panels.

There are also some other elements, which are premolded on the top section of the hull. Yes, those are pioneer tools and towing cables. I am not sure if it is a good solution, and probably some modelers will try to change it.

Turret should be glued out of two large parts. Only top hatches are molded separately, but they are still marked as closed in the manual.

Decals sheet is not that big, and you will find here all necessary numbers for only one marking. I am sure that it won't be difficult to find more options, but it is strange to see such a thing nowadays.

Assembly manual is printed in black-and-white format. You can check all pages in the video-review.

New set should be already available for purchase. In my opinion it is a okay choice for modelers who would like to get the famous German tank in smaller scale. While overall quality looks fine, there are still some questionable decisions made by Meng. For example, one marking is strange to get in 2026, and also premolded tools is not something to brag about. If you are fine with those points, then definitely take a look at the new King Tiger. If not - then maybe it is worth going a scale bigger and getting a better set?
Thank you for your help in getting this kit for the review.

Pros

  • Good molding quality
  • Clever parts division
  • Nice decals
