Tamiya 1/24 Renault 5 Turbo (368)

Today I would like to talk about Tamiya 1/24 Renault 5 Turbo (368). Kit might be announced as the new offering, but this is more of reissue of the original classic. There are still no alternatives on the market, so it will be interesting to see what is offered inside and how this kit fares today. Overall packaging is typical for the brand, so all frames are packed into separate plastic bags. Let's open them all and check everything together.
By the way, here you can read review with another interesting car.

Watch this video where I show all parts even closer.

First frame is molded out of white plastic and carries interior parts together with suspension subframes. Note that driver figurine is also here and might be handy for a bit more convincing result.

Car body shell is molded as one-piece element, so all doors, bonnet and trunk cover are molded in. Professionals might try to cut out those, but I would rather keep them in place.

Floor panel is molded separately. Note that suspension is relatively simple, but let's not forget about the age of this kit.

Next we see wheel rims which are chromed out of the box. In my opinion surface quality looks okay, but it is up to you whether you would like to repaint those.

Clear frame looks fine too. Note that all glasses are molded as single-piece part, what should be easier to install on your model.

Metal rods will be used for wheels placement on the model.

Vinyl tires are typical for this element in standard package. Note that there are some modest details on the tire walls.

Decals sheet is not that big, but you will find all necessary things, including the seat inserts. Tamiya didn't include seatbelts though, so this is something you will have to find. One of the markings can be seen on the photo below.

Assembly manual is black-and-white. I show all pages in the video-review.

New old kit should be already available for purchase. In my opinion it is an interesting choice for modelers who would like to copy the famous French car in 1/24 scale. Don't expect some crazy features out of the box, but standard build should look fine. Moreover, it is nice to see figurine included, as today there are not that many brands which supply such thing. I would recommend to get seatbelts for sure so that your driver would look even more convincing. :)
THANK YOU FOR DONATIONS WHICH MADE THIS REVIEW POSSIBLE!

Pros

  • Nice molding quality
  • Still looks fine for simple build
  • Good decals
  • Driver included

Cons

  • No masks for clear parts
  • Old plastic, so less features out of the box
