Rye Field Model 1/48 M1240A1 M-ATV (4801)

This review is dedicated to the new Rye Field Model 1/48 M1240A1 M-ATV (4801). Straightaway I will say check the scale of this release, as it is smaller than what we are used to see from that brand. Well, it even features writing that all details will be on the same level with 1/35 version. Such claim sounds quite interesting, so I decided to check this kit closer. Moreover, 1/48 scale will give you smaller size, so some modelers will be happy to get less space occupied. Box is surprisingly big for this scale, and everything sits tight inside. Packaging is typical here, all frames come in separate plastic bags. Let's open them and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with the smaller version of the same vehicle.

Watch this video where I show all parts even closer.

We are going to start with the sprue "A" which is filled with mix of parts. Of course, boxy design of the vehicle allowed manufacturer to split it into separate panels which will have to be joined together.

Interior details look good out of the box, but I recommend to get some reference materials in order to understand how to paint all of those things. Here you can see instrument panel.

Doors are separate here, and this feature might come handy for some diorama ideas. Note that handles are premolded though.

This frame comes in pair. As you can guess, Rye Field Model placed suspension parts and some pair interior parts. Wheel rims are also here.

Turret should be assembled out of several parts. It might be a good idea to search for some figurine to place inside this section.

Last frame is one of the biggest and carries large section of the hull. Note also amount of thin parts here.

Out of the box you will get nicely detailed engine which can be shown by opening the bonnet. You can also try to add some wiring here.

Floor panels come as separate parts and lower armor is molded together with sidesteps. Such design should make assembly process easier and faster.

Another great thing - one-piece main chassis. You just have to add more parts here, but the alignment is right straight out of the box.

One-piece elements continue with bonnet part. Note that front mask with headlamps and radiator grille should be installed separately.

Hull main section is also one part which is packed into separate cardboard box. Yes, horns are premolded here, and I am not sure if it was a smart decision, but well, what can we do here. :)

Clear frame looks great and carries all necessary parts. Kit doesn't include any masks or masks templates, so you will have to cut stickers with your own tools.

Rubber tires is something you won't be able to avoid unless you decide to buy 3D-printed original accessories. Standard parts look fine, but of course resin offers more features.

Unpainted PE fret comes as nice bonus which will come handy for fine features inside and outside. Just be sure to have the right tools as some of the parts are really tiny.

Decals sheet is not that big and carries symbols for two markings. Printing quality looks good. You can see both options in the separate marking guide printout.

Assembly manual is typical for this brand. I show all pages in the video-review.

New kit should be already available and you can get it in any good model shop. Yes, all parts and bonuses here look fine, but price tag is not that different from 1/35 scale kit. Moreover, smaller size might be tricky for some modelers, so 1/48 kit is a quite specific thing. Nevertheless, it might come handy for cool diorama ideas with aircraft as well as just smaller build which won't take half of your table. Moreover, even with the standard parts you will get nicely detailed vehicle. Just get some figures and it would look great as solo build.
