Tamiya 1/12 Ducati Superleggera V4 (140)

Bike models are not that often seen thing, but today we are going to talk about Tamiya 1/12 Ducati Superleggera V4 (140). New bike comes in the typical scale and offers us a chance to copy Italian two-wheeled beast. Moreover, it should be nicely detailed out of the box and make it possible to have own copy in your collection. I am a long-time fan of this model, but somehow price tag of the real thing still looks terrifying, so it was decided to get at least small scale analogue for the beginning. It also means that now we have a perfect chance to open this box and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with racing bike in the same scale.

Watch this video-review where I show all parts even closer.

We are going to start with large frame in silver color. Tamiya usually provides engine and suspension in this color, and today's kit is not an exclusion from the rule.

Engine assembly will require a painting plan from you, so that everything would look closer to real subject. Front forks might benefit from the chrome foil.

On the next sprue you will see two large parts - frame halves. It is a typical parts division, which should be easy to work with.

Wheel rims and rear swing arm can be found on another black frame. Rims are basically ready to be used, just make sure to paint them in the necessary color.

In the video-review I say that brake disc are not perforated, but if you take a careful look - they actually have holes in necessary places. Such features is very useful in large scale bike model.

All external panels come in white plastic. Here you can also find bike stand which should be assembled out of several parts.

Fairings look great and should be easy to get together. I would recommend to spend some time painting these parts properly in order to get a nice gloss finish.

The last black frame carries more of the external parts as well as the huge exhaust. Rear plate arm is molded as single-piece element.

Clear frame is packed in separate plastic bag. Molding quality looks great, and the most notable part will be multi-layer headlight.

This bag includes all traditional extras for the bike kit from Tamiya - small screwdriver, screws, vinyl tube, vinyl tires and metal sprint with vinyl polycaps.

There are several decals sheets in today's kit. The biggest one carries the necessary carbon decals for the fairings of the bike. Main challenge is to combine red color with the one you will be painting over.

Smaller decals sheet carries various badges, several versions of the dashboard and some other things. Tamiya also included tire stickers, chrome stickers and special masks. One and only paint version can be seen on the photo below, but I would recommend to find more photos of the real bike.

Such thing will be handy as the assembly manual is printed in black-and-white. I show all pages in the video-review.

New kit comes as yet another nice bike model from Tamiya. Of course, it is a must-have for all bike modelers as there are no other rivals on the market. Nevertheless, I am glad to see that model will be nicely detailed out of the box. There is no doubt that some aftermarket producers will release some upgrades, so it might be worth getting two kits. One you build to train a bit, and another one combine with all the accessories which will come later. :D
