Arma Hobby 1/48 P-39N Airacobra (40011)

This review will tell you more about Arma Hobby 1/48 P-39N Airacobra (40011). New aircraft version continues line of the bigger scale aircraft from the well-known manufacturer. I reviewed the previous version, so now it will be interesting to see what is packed here. Overall box style is typical for this brand, so you will get all frames in the same plastic bag. There are also some useful bonuses included as standard feature. Let's open everything and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with P-39Q in the same scale.

Watch this video-review where I show all parts even closer.

In this video you can check comparison with another set.

First frame is dedicated to fuselage halves and some of the external elements. Note that tail fin and rudder are molded separately, just like tailwings.

Inside you will find guiding pins for better alignment. There are not that many cockpit features as it would be assembled separately.

Wing is divided into two halves. Ailerons and flaps are still premolded, but external features look great out of the box. Note also landing gear wheels with the weight effect.

Smaller plastic frame comes with mix of various parts. It is worth mentioning that nose landing gear should be assembled in certain sequence, so pay attention to instructions.

There is also an errata note included with the correct part. The whole fix doesn't look too complicated, so be sure to follow the instructions.

Clear frame comes in the separate plastic bag in order to avoid possible scratches. Molding quality looks great, and doors are molded separately.

Precut masks should be useful for a nice paintwork on your model. Note that Arma Hobby included not only the canopy stickers, but also wheel ones too.

Nice bonus comes in form of metal weights which will have to be put in the nose section. This is a useful thing which will help to avoid tailsitter.

Decals sheet is not that big, but you will find all necessary symbols for three marking options plus one bonus variant. Printing quality looks great and manufacturer included cockpit decals too. Three main markings can be seen on the photo below.

Assembly manual is typical for this brand, and you can check all pages in the video-review.

New kit should be already available for purchase. In my opinion it is a great addition into lineup and we still get impressive set straight out of the box. Moreover, there are plenty of aftermarket decal sets available, so you can pick some different marking. Whole kit might be a fun project even for beginner modelers who would like to build something more sophisticated. :)
Get this and other kits on Arma Hobby website.

Pros

  • Great molding quality
  • Clever parts division
  • Nice decals
  • Metal weights included

Cons

  • Molded in flaps and ailerons
