ICM 1/48 Gotha Go 242B-2 (48224)

This review is dedicated to ICM 1/48 Gotha Go 242B-2 (48224). New version of the transport aircraft is still molded in popular scale and features generous interior details. Note that this time it comes as twin-engine type, so there should be some new parts included. Packaging is typical for this brand, and all parts come in several bags. There are 266 parts which should assemble into a model with 513mm wingspan. Let's open them and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with the previous A-version of the same aircraft.

We are starting with large frame which carries fuselage panels and wing parts. You already saw that wingspan will be huge, so be sure to reinforce the wings with something sturdy.

This sprue is packed in two pieces. Here you will find some of the seats as well as landing gear wheels. Both look fine for standard build.

Engine gondolas should be glued out of two halves. There are guiding pins which will help you with assembly.

Each of the tail booms is also assembled out of two parts. Rudder is separate here.

Kit offers two assembly options - with open rear section or with closed one. Both might be handy for some diorama ideas.

Those are the new parts specific for today's version. Overall quality looks nice, and it might be worth exposing at least one of the engines.

Now we move to the parts which are the reason why I call this kit not for beginners. ICM managed to copy nice interior, and it is definitely worth of effort.

As you can notice, each spars section is molded separately, so you will have to carefully join them together. Another moment to remember - careful separation as those are quite thin parts.

Last grey plastic frame is dedicated to wing mechanization and some of the tail surfaces. Some of those will have to be glued out of two halves.

Clear frame is packed into separate plastic bag. Molding quality looks great, and it is nice that ICM includes masks templates in the assembly manual.

Decals sheet is not that big, but there are even some cockpit decals. Printing quality looks great, and you can see both markings on the photo below.

Assembly manual is typical for this brand. I show all pages in the video-review and recommend to check it.

New aircraft model should be already available for purchase. In my opinion it is an interesting choice for modelers who are brave enough to build such giant. Moreover, you can get some figurines in order to sit inside the model. That's where one of the assembly options will come in handy. This is not a kit for beginners, but what you get in the box is quite nice and should be relatively easy to assemble together.

Pros

  • Nice molding quality
  • Masking templates included
