ICM 1/72 Ki-21-Ia RTAF (72206)

Today we have a chance to check ICM 1/72 Ki-21-Ia RTAF (72206). Yes, this is another version of Japanese bomber in popular scale. We reviewed previous releases, so it will be interesting to check what has changed in today's boxing. Overall packaging is typical, and you will find kit info on one of the sides. There are 163 parts inside which should assemble into a model with 314mm wingspan. Such size sounds impressive for 1/72 scale aircraft, right? Well, let's open the box and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with the previous version of this aircraft.

Watch this video where I show all parts even closer.

First frame is dedicated to two wing halves. Note that flaps are premolded, while ailerons are separate here. Yes, tail section comes as separate "module" in this kit.

ICM was nice to include both engines for the aircraft. They are nicely detailed for this scale, and it might be worth thinking on how you can expose one of them on your model.

Another tail section will be needed for today's version. Tailwings should be glued out of two halves with help of pins inside.

On the next sprue we find another pair of wing panels as well as propellers and some of the cockpit parts. Interior details should look great out of the box, but it will be worth to think on how to display them.

Both fuselage halves are molded with tail section as you might remember. External features include recessed panels line. Note that rear door is molded in unfortunately.

Inside you will find some of the interior features, those will deserve panel washing.

Clear frame is packed into separate plastic bag. Overall molding quality looks great and ICM supplies masks templates.

Decals sheet is not that big, but carries all necessary symbols. Printing quality is nice and decals should be easy to work with. All four markings can be seen on the photo below.

Assembly manual is typical for ICM. I show all pages in the video-review.

New Ki-21-Ia should be already available for purchase. In my opinion it offers a good chance to build unusual aircraft with unusual markings on it. Moreover, you will get a lot of valuable features in the standard package. I would recommend this kit to experienced modelers as two-engine aircraft are quite tricky to build and properly weather. Moreover, this model is not small, so beginners will be surprised with final dimensions. :)
