ICM 1/48 Mistel S1 (48101)

This time we are going to check ICM 1/48 Mistel S1 (48101). Kit comes as yet another new release from the famous Ukrainian brand. As you can notice on the boxart, plastic copies unusual combo of two aircraft in a quite big scale. Mistel has an interesting story and really crazy idea behind it, so I would recommend to read some articles about it. S1 version was designated as training type for practicing the overall controls in such complex aircraft connection. Such build should look impressive in the finished state and it also combines relatively fresh models together. Packaging is typical, set is supplied in large box. There are 280 parts which should turn into a model with 421mm wingspan. Let's open this box and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with another kit in the same scale.

As you can guess, we get two ICM kits here. There are also some new parts, which you can see on the photo above.

First we are going to take a look at Bf 109F-4. This plastic is not new, but still looks fine today. Note that ailerons are molded in here.

Model also features engine, even though I doubt that you would want to open it in this build. Cockpit looks okay, but it can benefit from additional PE.

Fuselage halves can be found on the next frame. Note that whole nose section will have to be assembled separately.

Clear frame comes in the separate plastic bag. Molding quality looks fine, and you can open cockpit with those parts.

Second aircraft is Ju 88A-4 in 1/48 scale. This is also a kit from ICM, but it is a bit more "fresh" in comparison with Bf. On the photo above you can see wing parts.

Clear frame comes in the separate plastic bag. Molding quality looks great and parts should contribute to the appearance of your model.

It is surprising that ICM also kept both engines for both aircraft. In my opinion it would be worth exposing at least one. Such features should also come handy for some diorama builds.

Kit is full of small parts, so be ready to work with them. By the way, wing mechanization elements are molded separately.

Each engine gondola should be glued out of two halves. The same can be said about landing gear wheels.

Note that we have several versions of the same elements, so it will be important to pay attention to what type you need for your build.

Small grey frame brings us machine guns and separate doors.

Fuselage halves can be found on the last sprue. Those are quite large parts, so I would recommend to join them section by section in order to get the right fitment.

There is only one decals sheet in this set. Printing quality looks fine. Assembly manual is typical for this brand, and I show all pages in the video-review.

Big combo set should be already available for purchase. In my opinion it can turn into an impressive build which would look great in the finished state. The only thing that you should keep in mind - this model is definitely not for beginners, as there is plenty of stuff which will require some attention. Moreover, kit offers huge space for various additions, be it scratchbuilding or aftermarket. I guess fans of different improvements will be happy to see such thing.
