Eduard 1/48 MiG-21bis Weekend (84130)

Today we are going to talk about Eduard 1/48 MiG-21bis Weekend (84130). This is a new aircraft kit from the famous model manufacturer. Note that this time MiG comes in a bit more accessible package which doesn't include masks or PE. Such version might be interesting for modelers who would like to save a bit of their money. Kit is supplied in the new version of the Weekend package, so we will get more markings inside. Packaging is typical - plastic frames come in several bags. Let's open them and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with Limited Edition kit.

You can help us get the new camera - just press "Donate" button on the right panel.

On the first frame you will find wing parts. Note that airbrakes and wing mechanization are molded separately.

Next sprue is filled with small parts. Here you can see one-piece nose cone and landing gear elements.

Main wheel well and engine nozzle should be glued out of separate parts. Molding quality looks fine and there are special guiding elements which will help you with positioning.

Large fuselage halves are molded without tail fin and lower section. Those elements will have to be added separately.

Even Weekend kit includes several frames with external equipment. Some of these will stay in your spare parts box.

Don't be shocked with amount of small parts because not all of them will be used in one build.

Here you can take a look at the tail parts. Note that rudder is molded as separate element. Inside you will find guiding pins for easier alignment.

Watch this video-review where I show all parts closer.

Clear frame is packed into separate plastic bag. You can copy open cockpit with these parts, but masks are not included, because we have Weekend Edition kit.

Nevertheless, there is one unusual thing - resin parts set which will be useful for copying one of the markings.

Two large decals sheets are printed in Eduard. Note that main one includes some cockpit decals as well as canopy seals.

Stencils look good, but may be a bit tedious in application, so be ready for that. You can see all markings on the photo below.

Assembly manual is typical for this brand. I show all pages in the video-review.

New MiG should be already available for purchase. In one box you will get a great plastic which should assemble into large copy of the famous fighter. Yes, we don't get any extras in the box, but such package might be interesting for modelers who would like to save a bit. Moreover, I am happy to see more markings in the Weekend kit - those camouflages are quite colorful, so you will find a suitable one.
Get this and other kits on official Eduard website.

Pros

  • Nice molding quality
  • Clever parts division
  • Ordnance included
  • Great decals
