Trumpeter 1/48 AH-64A Apache (05838)

Today I am going to tell you more about Trumpeter 1/48 AH-64A Apache (05838). This kit comes as a new-tooled plastic which copies the famous helicopter in popular scale. It should be noted that there are some kits on the market which have Apache in different versions, but this one should be molded with help of new technologies. Moreover, manufacturer promises more than 300 parts inside, so it will be interesting to see what is actually copied in the model. Overall packaging is typical for the brand, so let's open the box and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with Hind model in the same scale.

Watch this video-review where I show all parts even closer.

We start with the first frame where you will find parts for the main rotor, engine bays and landing gear. Note that wings should be glued out of two halves.

Cockpit base comes as one-piece element on the next sprue. Here you can also see the instrument panels and some other parts for both engines.

Main rotor blades come as separate parts, and don't have any bent to them. I am not sure if that is the case on the real aircraft, so be sure to check your references. Trumpeter also placed both engines on this frame, you can find them right in the middle.

Whole kit is molded in a quite nice quality, but some parts are very tiny, so you will have to be careful while installing them.

Both fuselage halves are molded together with tail fin. There are guiding elements inside which should help you with alignment of such large parts together.

External features include recessed panel lines and riveting. Both look fine, but try not to lose them under layer of primer and paint.

Clear frame is packed separately and looks great. Moreover, Trumpeter supplies masks sheet, which will come handy for a nice finish on your helicopter.

There is also unpainted PE fret for some fine features on the model.

Decals sheet is not that big, but you will find all necessary symbols for two options. Printing quality looks great and it should be easy to apply those on the model.

Marking guide is printed in color. It can be a good wall poster afterwards. :)

Both options can be seen on the photo below.

Assembly manual is typical for this brand. I show all pages in the video-review.

New Apache should be already available for purchase. In my opinion it is a great update for all the fans of this famous helicopter. 1/48 scale makes it reasonable in size, and yet you get some fine features in the standard plastic. Overall quality looks fine as well, but I would say this kit is more for experienced modelers who know what they would like to get with their model. Of course, there will be some aftermarket later, but it will cost you some extra money.
