Miniart 1/48 P-47D-28RE Thunderbolt (48015)

This review is dedicated to Miniart 1/48 P-47D-28RE Thunderbolt (48015). New aircraft set comes in popular scale and copies quite famous type. I reviewed previous versions, but it is always interesting to see what is offered in the new boxing. As you can notice on the boxart, all markings will be French and the kit is so called "Basic Kit". It means that we won't get additional PE, but for some modelers it should be enough in terms of what they get in standard plastic. Packaging is typical for this brand, so all parts are sealed into one bag. Let's open everything and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with another P-47 kit from the same brand.

Short info about aircraft:
  • Origin: Developed from the P-47D-25 variant, the P-47D-28RE was part of a lend-lease program that supplied American aircraft to Allied forces during World War II.
  • Deployment: These specific P-47D-28RE Thunderbolts were delivered to the Free French Air Force (Forces Aériennes Françaises Libres, FAFL) in 1944.
  • Role: The rugged P-47D proved highly effective for the FAFL, primarily performing fighter-bomber missions in support of ground troops during the liberation of France and later operations.
  • Legacy: The P-47D-28RE played a crucial role in the Free French air campaign, contributing to the Allied victory in Europe. These aircraft were later replaced with more advanced jets in the postwar era.

  • Watch this video where I show all parts even closer.

First frame is dedicated to wing mechanization as well as tail surfaces. Some of those will have to be assembled out of two halves.

Kit features three types of landing gear wheels, choice will depend on the marking you pick. Cockpit parts look great and deserve a nice paintwork.

It is still cool to see fully detailed engine in the standard package. Miniart decided not to skip on this prominent feature of the P-47.

Both fuselage halves are molded together with tail fin, but separate cowling and rudder. External features include recessed panel lines and rivets.

External equipment is also here. All this tanks, bombs and rockets come as standard bonus which might be handy for additional detailing.

Wing should be glued out of two halves for each side. Wing mechanization is separate. Cowling is assembled out of several panels as well.

Canopy should be assembled out of several sections, so you can even open cockpit. There are no masks in the kit, and I recommend to get some aftermarket set for this.

Decals are printed in Cartograf. Printing quality looks great and offers all necessary symbols for three markings. Yes, stencils are also here, and you can see all options on the photo below.

Assembly manual is typical for this brand. I show all pages in the video-review.

In conclusion, the Miniart 1/48 P-47D-28RE Thunderbolt (48015) is an impressive kit that caters to both novice and experienced modelers. The detailed parts offer a great opportunity to create a stunning replica of this historic Free French Air Force fighter. The well-engineered design and inclusion of extras like photo-etch and resin parts provide a wealth of detailing possibilities.

While the complexity might pose a challenge for absolute beginners, the quality and extras justify the reasonable price tag. For modelers seeking an accurate representation of the P-47D-28RE with plenty of detailing potential, this Miniart kit is a highly recommended choice. DetailScaleView.com enthusiasts will appreciate the level of detail and historical accuracy achievable with this kit.
