Today we are going to talk about Eduard 1/48 A6M2 Zero Type 21 Weekend Edition (84189). New release comes as more affordable version of the relatively fresh plastic. As you can see, we can copy Type 21 aircraft in popular scale. Original plastic set looked good, so it will be interesting to check how it fares without additional items. Packaging is typical here, all frames come in several bags. Let's open them and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with Limited Edition of this kit.

Watch this video-review where I show all parts even closer.
PE fret should be handy for fine features, and you can buy it separately.
Another possible add-on - masks set which is a must-have in my opinion.
First frame is dedicated to mix of various parts. Here you can see engine and cockpit elements. Both look nice out of the box.
Next we see landing gear legs, propeller, fuel tank and bomb. All of those look nice, but you can replace wheels with Brassin alternative.
Both fuselage halves are molded together with tail fin. Cowling should be glued on special template part.
Wing is separated into three panels. External features look good out of the box and should make your model even more realistic.
Clear frame is packed into separate bag. Molding quality looks great and you can copy the open cockpit with those parts. As you remember, masks are sold separately.
There are two decals sheets in the box, both are printed in Eduard. Overall quality looks nice and should be easy to apply on the model.
Cockpit will also get all necessary decals, what might be enough for some modelers. On the photo below you can see all markings.
Assembly manual is typical for this brand. I show all pages in the video-review.
New Zero should be already available for purchase. In my opinion this version looks great and might be a good opportunity to save some money. I know a lot of modelers who prefer to choose aftermarket themselves, and here they get a nice chance for that. The only thing to remember is that masks are not in the box, so it is worth ordering them together with a kit. I still hope that some day we will see masks template in Weekend Edition kits, so let's see. :)
