ICM 1/48 Mistel 1 (48100)

In this article we are going to talk about ICM 1/48 Mistel 1 (48100). As you can guess, here we get another version of unusual German aircraft in popular scale. We already reviewed the previous release, so it will be interesting to see what is different here. I also recommend you to read some story behind such unusual design. Packaging is typical for this brand, so all frames come in several bags. There are 251 parts which should assemble into a model with wingspan equal to 421mm. Let's open everything and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with previous Mistel version.

Watch this video where I show all parts even closer.

We are going to start with parts for Ju 88. On the photo above you can see panels for each side of the wing. Note that mechanization comes as separate bits.

Each engine gondola should be glued out of several halves. There are guiding pins inside which will help you during assembly.

Landing gear elements look sturdy and deserve some fine features in form of brake lines for example. Here you can also see some of the cockpit parts too.

Just like in previous Ju 88 sets, ICM included both engines here. This is really great bonus and might add visual interest to the whole build.

There are several versions of propellers and engine gondolas, but you will have to use the one on the previous sprue. Here the only things needed are landing gear wheels and some minor elements.

Be ready to modify the original fuselage. In order to copy Mistel design you will have to cut portion of the nose section on original parts.

Overall molding quality looks great even on the smallest parts.

Clear frame also looks nice and comes in the separate plastic bag.

Bf 109 kit is not exactly young. On the first frame you will find wing parts with molded in ailerons.

Yes, fighter will also get engine out of the box. The only question is how to display it on the finished model.

Both fuselage halves are molded with tail fin and separate cowling. You can also get some aftermarket PE in order to add more things in the cockpit area.

Clear frame is packed into separate plastic bag. Molding quality looks great and there is a masking template included.

Those two frames are new ones for Mistel 1. As you can notice, nose section should be glued out of two halves.

Special struts will require careful alignment in order to have aircraft in the right position. Note that Bf 109 landing gear will be in closed state.

Decals sheet is not that big but features all necessary symbols for three markings. Printing quality looks great and you can see all options on the photo below.

Assembly manual is typical for this brand. I show all pages in the video-review as usual.

New kit comes as yet another unusual product from ICM. In my opinion it will be interesting for modelers who would like to have this type in the collection. Moreover, all parts look decent out of the box, so you don't have to spend extra money for a nice result. Nevertheless, there is a huge potential for additional details with some extra aftermarket sets. The only question is whether you are ready to spend a bit more. :)
