Eduard 1/48 Midway Limited Edition (11166)

Today we have a chance to talk about Eduard 1/48 Midway Limited Edition (11166). Kit comes as Dual Combo with F4F-3 and F4F-4 inside. Of course, both kits come with masks, PE and generous choice of marking options. All this sounds like an interesting combo, and I guess there is no need to tell what is the main topic of the release. Packaging is typical here, so let's open the box and check everything together.
By the way, here you can read review with another Limited Edition.

Watch this video-review where I show all parts even closer.

Here I show wheel bays set for this model.

In this video I do review in Russian.

Some of the frames are identical for both aircraft, so we will show them once. For example, on the photo above you can see tail surfaces and external fuel tanks.

Cowling should be glued out of several panels. It is interesting to see here nicely detailed engine included in the standard package. Such thing deserves careful painting and weathering.

This kit originally surprised me with amount of details which are supplied in standard plastic. Here you can see cockpit and main wheel wells parts.

Each wing side should be glued out of two halves. Note that flaps are premolded, so you will have to get the separate add-on in order to have them retracted.

Here you can see the difference between top wing panel for F4F-3 and F4F-4. External features look great on both.

Fuselage halves are molded together with tail fin, but without rudder and cowling. External features look as good as on the wings.

Inside you will find guiding pins for easier alignment.

Clear frame is packed into separate plastic bag. Molding quality looks nice, and you can see masks on the photo below.

Masks will also come handy for landing gear wheels. Those stickers are pre-cut and ready to be used right away.

Each aircraft type has its own PE fret with prepainted parts. Such parts will be useful for fine features in your model.

Two large decals sheets are coming from Eduard. Printing quality looks great, and it should be easy to work with all those symbols.

Assembly manual is typical for this brand. You can check all pages in the video-review.

New combo set should be already available for purchase. In one box you will get two excellent kits which should turn into nice copies of the famous aircraft. Both should be easy to build out of the box, and you can also get original resin accessories for even more impressive appearance. Another thing which comes to my mind - aircraft stand so that you will be able to display both. Eduard has some history of making interesting stands, who knows, maybe we will see something new again. :)
Get this and other kits on Eduard website.

Pros

  • Nice molding quality
  • Clever parts division
  • Two kits in one box
  • Masks and PE included
  • Great decals

Cons

  • No resin bonuses in the box
