HobbyBoss 1/48 Pz.Sfl.IVa Dicker Max (84835)

In this article I will tell you more about HobbyBoss 1/48 Pz.Sfl.IVa Dicker Max (84835). New SPG comes in a quite unusual scale for a military vehicle. Nevertheless, such size choice will give you a bit more compact result, so it might be interesting for modelers who don't want to work with bigger builds. Overall packaging is typical for this brand, so each frame is packed into separate plastic bag. Let's open everything and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with another interesting SPG from Miniart.

Watch this video-review where I show all parts even closer.

First frame comes in two pieces which are wrapped in foam. Such thing is used in order to protect tracks which look fine and it is nice to have them in plastic.

On the next frame you will find main barrel, two types of muzzle brakes and also some minor hull elements. Overall quality looks fine, but with main gun you will have to be careful.

This sprue is also wrapped into foam due to thin parts. Top hull panel looks okay and has installation slots for other elements.

Here you can see large interior parts. Those feature plenty of premolded details, so try to plan the paintwork in advance. Rear wall has separate hatches which might be useful for some diorama ideas.

It is interesting to see that many parts here are molded as one-piece elements. Such design should make assembly a bit easier.

Another example - lower hull section. Note amount of features on the floor panel, it is something you won't see often on bigger kits. :)

Superstructure is also one part and has quite prominent welding seams. It might be worth picking them out in your project with some weathering and painting techniques.

Towing cable is metal, and that can be also considered as useful thing.

Decals sheet is not that big, but you will find all necessary symbols for two marking options. Overall quality looks fine in my opinion.

Side of the box also features short history note. There is also separate ad insert highlighting various features of this kit.

Assembly manual is typical for this brand. I show all pages in the video-review.

New Dicker Max should be already available for purchase. In my opinion it is a great choice for modelers who don't have a lot of space for bigger 1/35 option. Moreover, you still get plenty of features even in the reduced form. The only thing that I would like to see is the figurine because it is shown on the boxart, but not included. Well, maybe it will be easy to find some suitable replacement for this project. :)
Thank you for donations which made this review possible!

Pros

  • Nice molding quality
  • Clever parts division
  • Plastic tracks

  • Might be tricky for some beginners
