ICM 1/48 Nakhon Phanom Air Base (DS4804)

Today I am going to show you ICM 1/48 Nakhon Phanom Air Base (DS4804). While name is not that suggestive, one look at the boxart should be enough to understand what to expect inside. One box will bring you quite an impressive combo which should combine into a diorama project. Overall packaging is typical for this brand, even though box size is longer than usual. There are 196 parts for O-2 Skymaster, 344 parts for B-26K Counter Invader, 88 parts for US Aviation Armament, 38 parts for five figurines and 128 parts for M8A1 landing mat. Yes, all those things are actually coming together in one box. All this sounds like quite a package to build, so let's open everything and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with another combo-set in the same scale.

Watch this video-review where I show all parts even closer.

We are going to start with M8A1 landing mat. This thing was released separately and as part of previous combo-sets. It looks great and deserves nice weathering.

Exactly the same can be said about armament set. All those items look great, but I recommend to check your references in order to understand what can be installed on the model.

Each half has guiding elements inside which would help you with alignment and fitment of the parts.

ICM didn't skip on various stencils, which come on the separate decals sheet. Overall printing quality looks great out of the box.

Next kit is B-26K Counter Invader. This model should be quite large in 1/48 scale, so be ready for such build. On the first frame you will find some wing parts and engine nacelles.

Fuselage halves are molded together with tail fin, but without rudder and nose section. Inside you will find plenty of premolded features.

Tailwings should be glued out of two halves and separate elevators. Such design is more than welcome in 1/48 scale.

Underwing pylons will be used for Counter Invader version. Note that each is glued out of two halves.

For the next sprue it is worth noting the large spars which will be holding both wings in place. Smart design for more sturdy assembly.

As it was mentioned, nose section is molded separately and can be found on the next sprue. Here you can also see landing gear parts and some of the cockpit bits.

Props come as one-piece parts. Such design should be easier to assemble, but a bit more tricky to paint.

This frame comes in two pieces. Here you will find engine parts as well as some additional bits for the aircraft. Overall details level looks rather impressive for standard items.

Last grey frame comes with engine gondolas halves and some of the wing mechanization bits. Of course, there are also guiding pins inside.

Clear parts are packed into a separate plastic bag. Overall quality looks great and ICM provides masking templates for those.

Decals sheet is not that big, but carries all necessary symbols. Printing looks great in person.

Next we see O-2 parts. First frame brings tail booms, some parts for the engine and wing panels. There are guiding pins inside which should help you with alignment of those parts.

Fuselage halves can be found on the next frame. Note that cowling section was molded separately. Overall design looks nice and should be fun to work with.

Clear frame is packed into a separate plastic bag as well. All parts look as good as on B-26, and there are masking templates provided.

Decals sheet is not that big, but you will find all necessary stencils and symbols for your build.

Figurine parts come on the last grey plastic sprue. Overall parts division is typical for this scale, and sculpting looks good too. Note that there are no guiding elements on those parts. Assembly manuals are standard for ICM, and I show all pages in the video-review.

New big combo-set should be already available for purchase. In my opinion it is an interesting choice for modelers who would like to have several sets at once. Moreover, those are quite detailed aircraft models, which should be fun to build. The only thing what I can say is that such model builds are more for experienced modelers who would like to have more features on their kits. Moreover, you will need plenty of space in order to house all of those together.

  • Nice molding quality
  • Clever parts division
