Airfix 1/43 Land Rover Series 1 Pick-Up (A55012)

Today I am going to show you the new Airfix 1/43 Land Rover Series 1 Pick-Up (A55012). As you can notice on the main photo, set comes as so called "Starter Set", but it will be interesting to check the plastic. Small scale car kits might be a good way for beginners to try this type of models without spending a lot on the bigger kit. I don't have a lot of experience with Airfix, so it will be interesting to see what is supplied inside this nice red box. Let's open everything and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with another small scale car.

Watch this video where I show all parts even closer.

First frame is dedicated to left body panel, bonnet, roof, suspension parts and wheels. Yes, doors are molded in, so you won't be able to open the interior.

Second frame carries the right panel, floor section, cab rear wall and some interior elements. Overall molding quality looks nice and it should benefit from careful paintwork.

Clear frame is packed separately. Those parts look good, but there are no masks in this kit.

It is nice to see "proper" decals included instead of stickers. Overall quality looks fine and you can see marking option on the photo below.

Assembly manual is typical for this brand. I show all pages in the video-review.

While some modelers might be skeptical about such small scale car sets, today's Land Rover looks fine out of the box. We can compare it with some of Aoshima offerings, which are oversimplified and come with stickers. Here we get a bit more "true" model kit, which might be fun for any type of modeler. Yes, the scale is more of car models suitable, but there is still a lot of fun for relatively low price. :)
THANK YOU FOR YOUR DONATIONS WHICH MADE THIS REVIEW POSSIBLE!

Pros

  • Nice molding quality
  • Clever parts division
  • Good decals

Cons

  • No masks for clear parts
  • Molded in doors
