ICM 1/35 Unimog S404 Krankenwagen (35138)

Today we are going to talk about ICM 1/35 Unimog S404 Krankenwagen (35138). As you can guess from the name, kit comes in popular scale and continues series of German trucks. This time we have a chance to build ambulance version, which might be an interesting project even on its own. Packaging is typical here, so all frames come in one plastic bag. There are 293 parts which should assemble into a vehicle with 145mm length. Let's open this box and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with previous "Koffer" version.

We are going to start with new parts which will be needed for the rear section. As you can see, those are separate panels with cutouts for clear parts. Keep in mind that there is almost no interior, so it might be a good chance to scratch-build something.

Unimog will have nicely detailed suspension out of the box. Some parts are quite tiny though, so be ready to work with tweezers.

Here you can see more parts for the ambulance version.

Yes, we get vinyl tires here, and that is something you won't be able to avoid. Well, the only option to this is to find some aftermarket resin.

Front cab should be assembled out of separate panels. Overall details here look great, so just make sure to check the alignment.

ICM also provides us with separate doors and bonnet. Assembly manual shows them as assembled in closed position, but I think some modelers will come up with interesting ideas.

Clear frame is packed into separate plastic bag. Molding quality looks great, but there are no masks in the kit.

Decals sheet is not that big, but carries all necessary symbols for several markings. Printing quality looks great, and you can see options on the photo below.

Assembly manual is typical for ICM. You can check all pages in the video-review.

In my opinion this truck is an interesting thing to work on, be it solo project or diorama. Out of the box you will get a lot of features, but there is also plenty of space for scratch-building. As usual, I would recommend to see if it is possible to replace wheels with resin aftermarket. In my opinion this upgrade would be noticeable in such build. Moreover, ICM could benefit with truck drivers set, so who knows, maybe we will see it in the future.
