Tamiya 1/48 Challenger 2 Desertised (101)

This time we are going to talk about Tamiya 1/48 Challenger 2 Desertised (101). Yes, your eyes are not wrong, and kit comes in rather unusual scale. Such thing might be handy for some modelers who don't have a lot of space around them. Moreover, you won't sacrifice with features here, so it might be quite a smart buy. Real tank doesn't need an extra introduction, but with recent news it can be a nice project. Packaging is typical here, frames come in separate bags. Let's open them all and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with another modern tank.

Watch this video-review where I show all parts even closer. :)

We are going to start with frame which is supplied in pair. As you can guess, Tamiya placed tracks and roadwheels here. Plastic tracks are always welcome and should contribute to the final appearance.

This sprue gives you a perfect comparison of the turret size with the hull. Both are nicely detailed and should benefit from careful weathering.

Lower hull is assembled out of separate panels. Suspension arms are premolded, and that should help you keep the right alignment.

Another great thing is a one-piece barrel. Nice to see Tamiya using modern molding technology.

Decals look good, but there is only one marking option inside. You can see it on the photo below.

Assembly manual is typical for this brand. I show all pages in the video-review.

Today's kit comes as another nice 1/48 scale release from Tamiya. In my opinion it is as good as other tanks made by this company. Even the standard project will look great and can be fun to build. I don't like that there are no clear parts to be found inside, so be ready for some scratch-building as well. Moreover, Brengun/Hauler will release PE parts for the model, and I will add video-review soon. :)
THANK YOU FOR DONATIONS WHICH MADE THIS REVIEW POSSIBLE!

Pros

  • Nice molding quality
  • Clever parts division
  • Good decals

Cons

  • No clear parts
