Today we are going to talk about Hobby Design 1/24 McLaren MP4/4 1988 (HD02-0467). As I was mentioning in the review of the plastic kit, this upgrade might be useful for modelers who would like to get more from their project. Whole set is packed with various PE and 3D printed parts, which are not that big due to the scale chosen. Packaging is typical for this brand, so all parts are neatly packed into several bags. Let's open them all and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with Meng kit.

I would like to start with PE frets as amount of them here is truly impressive. On the first photo you can see some parts for the front and rear wings as well as some elements for the monocoque and even seatbelts.
Next we get two more PE frets. Those updates should be noticeable too as one set of parts will go onto radiators and another has very useful template for painting logo on the tires.
In those two bags you can see small screws/rivets which will have to be used as well. This process will be tricky, so take your time and be sure to have the magnifying glass.
Resin parts look fine, but size is also very small. For the separation you will need a very good sharp knife.
Decals sheet is included here because original kit doesn't feature Marlboro logos. Note that you can replicate car 11 or 12. Assembly manual is quite simple, so take your time to understand on how it should be combined with original assembly sequence.
New set should be already available for purchase. In my opinion it is a great add-on for McLaren kit and definitely a must-have for a proper build-project. Yes, you can buy decals separately, but all those metal parts will add even more features to your formula. Assembly might take some time, so this is definitely not something I would recommend to beginners.
Thank you for your donations which made this review possible!Pros
- Attention to the smallest features
- Decals printing quality
- Nice metal parts for fine details
Cons
- Not for beginners
