ICM 1/48 Do 217K-1 with Fritz-X (48275)

This review will tell you more about ICM 1/48 Do 217K-1 with Fritz-X (48275). New bomber comes as yet another version of the German aircraft. It is molded in popular scale and will take plenty of space on your shelf. Overall packaging is typical for this brand, so sprues come in two plastic bags. Assembled model will measure impressive 524mm and there are 233 parts in total. Note that this time we also get gliding bombs which will be placed under wing. Let's open everything together and take a closer look.
By the way, here you can read review with Do 17 in the same scale.

Watch this video-review where I show all parts even closer.

On the first frame you will see engine parts. Those will stay untouched as today's version requires radial version instead.

Wing mechanization is molded separately and looks fine. It might be handy for some build ideas, especially in this size.

Radial engine comes on two similar frames. Both powerplants look fine and should be visible on the finished model.

Each engine gondola should be glued out of several parts. There are guiding pins which will help you with alignment.

Fuselage halves are molded on the separate sprue, and those are quite large parts. I would recommend to check the fitment while gluing those two together.

Wing design is rather unusual because top section will be actually covering the fuselage as well. Try to find some metal rod for a better sturdiness.

Fritz-X bombs are supplied on two frames. Both are looking fine and should be easy to assemble.

Here you can see another version of the engine gondolas.

Yes, and one more version of the fuselage. Be sure to carefully check assembly manual so that you use the right parts for your build.

Last grey frame is dedicated to wing parts.

Clear frames are packed into separate plastic bag. Molding quality looks great on both.

Don't worry about masking - ICM supplies template for the masks in the assembly manual.

Decals sheet is not that big, but you get all necessary symbols for three marking options which can be seen on the photo below.

Assembly manual is typical for this brand. You can check all pages in the video-review.

New big kit should be already available for purchase. In my opinion this is definitely a choice for experienced modelers who would like to build something unusual. Finished aircraft will take plenty of space, but should be also fun in terms of features. Moreover, you get all necessary items in the box, even masks template is here and should be handy for a nice final result.

Pros

  • Nice molding quality
  • Clever parts division
  • Great decals
  • Masking templates included

Cons

  • Might be too big for some modelers
