Today's review will tell you more about ICM 1/32 Battle of Malta (DS3201). Kit comes as a combo-set from the famous brand. It is molded in large scale and features two biplane aircraft - CR.42 and Gloster. Both were released as separate sets, but now you can get them together and build some interesting project. Overall packaging is typical, so each portion of plastic is coming in its own bag. There are 161 parts for assembly of CR.42 Falco and 140 parts for Gloster Sea Gladiator Mk.II. Both are molded in the same scale of course. Let's open them and take a closer look together.
By the way, here you can read review with useful book for this build.

Watch this video-review where I show all parts even closer.
We are going to start with Gloster parts first. On the photo above you can see parts for the top wing, tail surfaces and cowling.
Clear frame comes in the separate plastic bag. Molding quality looks great, and you can copy the open cockpit on your model.
Kit features nicely detailed engine out of the box, so it might be a good idea to think on how to show it on the finished model. Note also cockpit walls on the same sprue.
Lower wing is also glued out of three parts. I would recommend to find some aftermarket wheels for even more impressive appearance of your build.
Large propeller comes on the separate frame together with some cockpit parts for this aircraft.
Sea Gladiator version will require these parts to be installed.
Both fuselage halves are molded together with tail fin. Surface details look great and deserve some preshading and weathering.
Next we continue with parts for CR.42 Falco in the same scale. On the first sprue you can see top wing halves, which are molded without ailerons.
Landing gear fairings should be assembled out of two halves each, but there are guiding elements which will help you with alignment.
Large propeller is molded as one-piece element, and such design should be easier to work with. Here you can also see some of the cockpit elements and engine parts.
Lower wing is designed in slightly different way in comparison with British aircraft. Nevertheless, you also get a nicely detailed engine out of the box.
Both fuselage halves are molded together with tail fin, but without rudder. Each landing gear wheel should be glued out of two halves.
Clear frame comes in the separate plastic bag. Molding quality looks great, and there are masking templates in the assembly manual.
Decals sheets are not that big, but you will get all necessary symbols there. Printing quality looks great straight out of the box.
Keep in mind that today's edition features only two markings which can be combined together. You can see them on the boxart and on the photo below.
Assembly manual is typical for this brand. I show all pages in the video-review.
New combo-set should be already available for purchase. In my opinion it is a great proposition for a dual project in large scale. Both sets look fine straight out of the box and just require a careful assembly. The only thing that could be handy in such sets is the models stand which could house both aircraft in dogfight. :)
Get this and other combo-sets on Modelimex website.Pros
- Nice molding quality
- Clever parts division
- 2 kits in one box
- Great decals
- Masking templates included
Cons
- Definitely not for beginners
- Stand is needed for both aircraft
